A childhood cancer diagnosis doesn't just impact a child’s health; it often destabilizes a family’s entire livelihood. Many of the families we serve come from impoverished areas, and when a parent must stop working to become a full-time caregiver, basic necessities—like food and toiletries—become luxuries they can no longer afford.

CCO’s Practical Support Programme is designed to restore dignity and provide the essential resources needed to keep families strong during the fight.

The Journey Bag: Nourishment for the Road Ahead

The road to recovery often leads our families across borders and through long hours of travel. For many of our Young Warriors, the journey to Bloemfontein for specialized treatment and check-ups can be as taxing as the treatment itself.

To ensure our warriors stay strong and energized for the trip, CCO provides a specialized Travel Care Bag for every journey.

What’s Inside?

Each bag is packed with love and nutrition to sustain both the child and their caregiver:

  • Fresh & Healthy: A selection of seasonal fruits and creamy yogurts.

  • Hearty Meals: Freshly prepared sandwiches to keep hunger at bay.

  • Hydration & Energy: Refreshing drinks and a variety of wholesome snacks to make the long road a little easier.

  • Fun & Entertainment: An assortment of coloring pencils, crayons, puzzles, coloring books, and toys to make the trip joyful.

At CCO, we believe that no parent should have to stand alone in their darkest hour. Our bereavement support is a unique, peer-driven initiative:

  • A Collective Heart: When a child passes, the parents of fellow Young Warriors come together to donate funds to the grieving family. This is not a formal grant from the organization, but a personal gift of solidarity from those who have shared the same journey.

  • Dignity in Farewells: While we do not dictate how these funds are used, many families utilize them to cover funeral costs, ensuring they can say goodbye with the dignity, respect, and honor their Young Warrior deserves.

  • Beyond the Financial: This contribution serves as a powerful reminder to the bereaved family that they are seen, held, and loved by a community that understands their pain like no other.
