The greatest hurdles in the fight against childhood cancer in Lesotho are not just medical—they are systemic. A widespread lack of awareness often leads to late or missed diagnoses, while a historical shortage of resources leaves many families without the support they deserve.

A Movement for Change

To ensure that every Young Warrior has a fighting chance, we lead a comprehensive, nationwide advocacy campaign designed to put pediatric oncology at the forefront of the national health agenda.

Our Strategic Pillars of Advocacy:

  • Closing the Detection Gap: We fight the "culture of silence" and lack of awareness by educating the public and healthcare sectors, ensuring that early symptoms are recognized before it's too late.

  • Resource Mobilization: We advocate at the highest levels of government and the private sector to secure the funding, facilities, and medical resources necessary to treat every child with dignity.

  • Collaborative Leadership: We believe in the power of "Orchestration over Execution." By partnering with the Ministry of Health, international oncology bodies, and local NGOs, we create a unified front that is stronger than any single organization could be alone.

  • Policy Influence: We act as the voice for the voiceless, working to influence national health policies that protect the rights of children with cancer and ensure their families have a safety net of practical and emotional support.

Strengthening the Referral Pathway

Our advocacy is not just about talk; it’s about results. Through our collaborations, we are streamlining the path from the first clinic visit to the specialized oncology ward, cutting down the time between "something is wrong" and "treatment has started."

Mobilizing Stakeholders: Our Mission to Influence Policy and Public Perception

CCO advocates for those whose lives have been affected by childhood cancer, ensuring that every child diagnosed with cancer has access to specialised treatment centres, specialised life-saving medicines, paediatric palliative care and support.

In addition, CCO advocates for the smooth reintegration of children and teens living with cancer back into society after treatment, as well as to ensure that all their human rights are respected.

CCO continues to work in collaboration with a number of alliances, networks, like-minded non-profit organisations and government departments to influence and lobby for policies relevant to childhood cancer.

  • Paediatric Palliative Care: We believe in the right to dignity and comfort. We work to ensure that palliative care is integrated into the treatment journey, focusing on the quality of life for both the child and the family.

  • Holistic Support Systems: From the moment of diagnosis through to long-term survivorship, we advocate for the emotional, practical, and social support that keeps families whole.
